Inquiry

For Inquiry I am In Rebecca's Impact Project Group. I am Trying To Make a craft day and it will be on the day we show our work . So i have been thinking about what we should create and how what  stuff we can use and how much of it we have.
 I have been busy finding crafts to use and what type of crafts we can do and i decided to do some xmas crafts because it is so close to xmas so we created a xmas tree. We found some crafts that we could stick on the tree and put them on a slide. getting ready we thought of doing some baking and what spots we would do our crafts in. the real thing was amazing but i forgot to bring some baking so we bribed people to make some xmas tree decorations by saying if you made ONE decoration you would get a piece of brownie.

• the hardest part of all this was most probably giving out the brownies and getting the craft supplies.
• The funny part was when every one just wanted the brownies so we were thinking of TAKING OVER THE WORLD WITH BROWNIES HA HA HA HAAAAA. omg that seems evil XD

My Poetic Writing

Description: As you obviously know from my last post in Troy's writing group we have been learning about poetry. Last week we did Cinquains. We are putting the two poems that we wrote into our yearbook for the end of the year graduation for the year six's ( Me 2 ). We Put Our Work Into A slide first thing before they are put in the year book. Here is the slide with all of our Wonderfull poems. About Cinquains:

Cinquains are a type of poetry when you don't have to rhyme, they have 2 syllables on the first line then 4 syllables on the second line, then 6 syllables, then 8 syllables and then back to 2 syllables. Like a Christmas tree.

About Free Verse:

Free verse poetry is when there is no rules what so ever, it doesn't have to rhyme. We could write about any experience we had. So can you guess what I wrote about.

Reading Sample

Title: I think that the name: The Spiral Chrysalis is an amazing and grasping title I am Guessing by the name this has to do with a butterfly hatching but Do not judge a book by its cover.

Cover Designs: The Illustrations look magical and it just wheels you in. I know I have not read it yet but an opinion of mine is that I will most probably get wheeled in and will not be able to leave until I finish.

Blurb: the blurb is really magical and grasping it is an amazing way to make it magical and exiting.

Predictions: I think It is set in the back yard and three people get stuck in another world I think that when no one can leave the Butterfly Spreads its wings and leaves the Chrysalis.

Passion Project Term 3 2015

Description: Every week on Thursday we do Passion Projects with Suzanne. My Passion Was SPCA Cupcake Day. And every day we made cupcakes if Suzanne or Debbie were free.The people that were in the Passion Project Spca Cupcake day group were Sophie Wilson, Devin Dunlop, Abigail Young and myself.

 Big Idea: We Wanted to make 300 cupcakes for the SPCA Cupcake day this year. We Raised $840! We baked mini sized Cupcakes, Normal sized Cupcakes and Texas ones (The Really big Ones!)(That look like muffins!) People brought in donations, food and blankets. We made around 350 cupcakes! Some people offered to bring some cupcakes to help go towards the SPCA. We got round about 1200 cupcakes altogether at the end. 




Evaluation: I think that we have done very well in the cupcake day. Lots of people wanted them.
Next Time I think we should hand out the notice first and then count up all the cupcakes we have and then we could top it up. I am so glad and proud that we raised $840. 

Writing Sample

Description: In writing we have had to write a story about whatever we wanted. We got to choose what type of story. Our choices were like Diary, Newspaper, Song or Descriptive piece.
I chose diary talking about my life.



Big Idea: Dear Diary

My mum and dad lived in Wellington New Zealand. My dad had his own Fantastic hair business it was named Furness Hair. My mum worked there too so that was how my parents met.

Then a couple of years passed and then I was born (And I was amazing!) . I know they would have loved me because I was the first born. But a bad thing is they thought I was going to be a BOY.

They were going to name me Ollie but since I was a girl they called me bubba for a while then they thought of Olivia the one name that means Olive Tree.

I had grown to be 1 and a half I guess and then my sister was born at the end of the bed.

Like every other baby I was annoyed That the attention was taken away from me so I decided to say When baby go home for about a month until I realised that she was here to stay.

Then we moved from wellington when I was 4 and I can remember singing kids songs and being piled with towels yes I said it towels.

when we got there I went straight to bed but then I realised the bed was in the car so I slept on the floor. Ok so really the rest of my life was I started school then we moved then we moved again to a stinky house and now we are well remaking it so that brings us to today I am a 10 year old. I do TAEKWONDO and I now live In Palmerston North New Zealand. So that was my life.

FeedBack/FeedForward: You have done a great job telling me about some of the things in your life. I think that you could still work on adjectives because there wasn't very many descriptive words. For example when you said ......  and being piled with towels yes I said it towels. Instead of saying towels you could of described the towels where they fluffy, where they sulky, where they soft. Georgia :)

Evaluation: Ok so Georgia I agree with you but I need to say I COULD NOT describe about the towels I do not even know what songs we sang.

Kapa Haka Reflection

Description: In Kapa Haka we have been Learning a new song Harei Mai and we have also been just practicing our songs.

My last post about kapa haka said that my goal was: " A personal goal for me is… To learn to do the movements properly and to become a leader someday. I think that I have achieved my goal of being able to do the movements properly. How can I achieve being a Kapa Haka leader? Well... I could become a leader by proving to the teachers for kapa haka next year that I would be a great Leader. If they do kapa haka at the next school I go to.

Feed Back/ Feed Forward: Nice Olive. (haha) You have a clear plan on how you can achieve your goal. I think you could work on getting the opportunity to prove yourself to the teachers. Once you get that opportunity, don't blow it. Aye (0)__(0)

Wearable Arts

On Friday every week we work on our Wearable Arts that is going on around the end of the year.

Our production Is named Ora what means life in maori.

In wearable arts I need to base my costume around Africa so I decided to do a gazelle or also named an antelope. I am doing safari with the teacher Kate. This is what is going on: Troy is doing Elements, Rebecca Is doing Super Hero's and Kate is doing Safari or Africa.

I chose a gazelle because I really like the look of gazelles and horns. I think Gazelles are a great thing to use as a thing in Africa.

I have Finished my muzzle for my mask and I have finished my antlers and ears.

Tic Tac Toe:

have done a tic-tac-toe named News Report.

Here is my description about it: The World Body Painting Festival al took place in Austria between the 3rd and 5th of July this year, with models from over 45 countries displaying their art.The Artists use brushes and sponges special effects and face painting, Using bodies as canvas. Props and pieces are used for illusions. The World Body painting Festival was founded in 1998 by Alex Barendregt and is now a popular event with many fans attending to watch each year.

I am in the summarising group I have not been here for half the term so far so I have not done as much as other people.

Why did you choose it? Because I wanted to be in a little bit of difficulty

Why is that your goal? Because I wanted to be in summarising

What does it mean? To summarise something you look at a magazine and see what it is about using the big words and photographs.

Kapahaka Reflection Term 2 2015

Every Monday at 2.00, some people practice Kapa Haka But those some people are the people that chose to do Kapa Haka. It used to be that some people were chosen out of our group to compete but now we have made a new group for competing named Tematangi. I'm In that group. The photo below was last year at our Matariki concert.

At kapahaka I enjoy... Learning about the Maori culture.

I am most proud of… Being quite good at Singing in maori.

I find... some of the movements challenging because... people beside me and around me say I'm doing it wrong when they are the ones doing it wrong.

I am managing this challenge by…. Trying not to listen to them but still pay attention.

A personal goal for me is… To learn to do the movements properly and to become a leader someday

Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by... Paying attention to only what we are doing and not what I am doing after school or at lunch.

FeedBack/FeedForward: Wow Olivia! You seem quite passionate of becoming a successful kapahaka person! I like the way you have a "CAN DO" attitude and will try to achieve anything that you strive for. You lift you head high and be proud girl! I agree with what you find challenging because you could be doing something correct while someone is doing something wrong. You should work on ignoring what other people say and try to not let that effect you. BTW: you will make a great leader one day :D Aye

Description: This term in our maths I have been practicing on and getting better at my strategies as in my making tens, ext. And the task that we need to do is a rebel sport question so it looks like this picture below:

Big Idea: I used place value to work out my maths problem. To learn we had to use the cost and plus or take away another cost.

FeedBack/FeedForward: I think your working is really tidy and clear, but some people in our school might not know what a cost is. But well done:) Katie!

Evaluation: I myself think that I did a very good job but next time I think that I need to use more than one strategy because I do not want to jump over the pit. The next strategy I want to practice witch I

Description: In science we have been learning about how to be a great scientist. My inquiry is about Fennec Fox's.We had to find heaps of information about our question we focused on. The main thing we focused on was their biological adaptations and behavioural adaptations.

Writing Portfolio Sample

Description: My goal is to use complex sentences in my writing. I am trying to get better at it by using it more constantly in my writing. The motivation for my story sort of came from the story below because at the end he got adopted.

Big Idea:  Here is my story. The complex sentences are highlighted in red. If you do not know what a complex sentence is this is my explanation.  Here is an example: "Bella is a girl" That is a simple sentence and if you add Bella is a girl, with long brown hair, that makes it a complex sentence. The underlined simple sentence is the independent sentence. The sentence that's not underlined is a dependent sentence.

Description: This term we have been doing reading. We have something called a Tic-Tac-Toe, A Tic-Tac-Toe looks like this:

Digging Deep

The other day we had writing and our task was to make a digging deep poster. The little holes are not very useful sentences and there is one in the middle that is good but it could use a bit more info and the deepest is perfect. Here is my poster:

Description:

Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. I have highlighted the thing I think I have done well YELLOW and one thing I would like to work on PINK.

Body:

WALT: Defensive skills and movements

Success Criteria:

Body Movement

• Weight on balls of feet
• Feet shoulder width apart
• Knees flexed
• Concentration and eyes on ball, head and eyes up
• Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass
• Quick small feet, stay on balls of feet
• Arms within confines of body
• Take feet to ball
• Land with a SBP

Intercepting

• Body angled to see player and ball
• Anticipate pass and player movement

Restrictive Marking

• Meet player as they start towards the ball/where they want to go
• stay close to the attacking player
• Head and eyes up, arms close to body to avoid obstruction/contact
• Angle body so attacking player is ‘pushed’ away from where he/she wants to go
• 0.9m from ball carrier

Evaluation: 1 think that I did very well with the success criteria and I think that I know most of the movements and I definitely had my body angled to the player so I could see the ball and the player.

Feedback/Feedforward: Good job Olivia you were getting better and better every time! Next time you could try to anticipate when the player or were the player is going to move other than that you have done a great job!

Every Friday we have been doing Discovery Time and on the 5th of March I was making A song and I think it fits the spot for creativity. Oh I forgot to say there are words that are either Agency, Creativity, Excellence and Inspire. So I think I used creativity because I was Creating a song.
